Hong Kong's Food Culture

The title of the post is quite misleading. In this post, I will not be posting about HK FOOD culture but a restaurant in Low Yat Plaza. This is just another review.



Went down to KL as I wanted to look for a new camera to replace my antique Canon IXY 320 that we asked our BIL to buy from Japan. That was like 5 years ago. Its heavy and damn bulky. Even the battery cost about RM200 each. Might as well buy a new one. Thought of either SONY's T series ( up to 7.2megapixel ), Panasonic Lumix ( 6.2 ) or a Olympus 800 ( 8.2 ). Advise, anyone?

Ok.Back to the topic. I was looking at their ads on the notice board and they are apparently quite famous being feature in Chinese Papers and I know nuts about Chinese. My wife then told me that theyare famous for their noodles and certain desserts.

Went in at about 9pm and it was literary empty. Ordered and then I met my boss...one of the bosses actually. They were shopping for a luggage. Sat at different table...phew...!

This is what we had on that Thursday night. Sorry if I didnt call anyone. It was a last minute thingy.















Entrance to the Restaurant via Low Yat Plaza. There's another entrance from the road side.















My dessert - Fresh Milk Curd with Ginger. Looking for the recipe , so I can prepare some at home. Lets see if I can find them.





























My Wanton Noodle Soup - errr...should be SUI KOW Noodle Soup. Out of 10, I will give it 5 overall. The noodle is good - al dente but a little too dry and the topping, cant remember what it was - way too salty and MSG laden. I drank like 2 litres of water in 2 hours time.






























This is the Fish Ball Curry. Another HK Fod Icon. Its supposed to be 6, I ate one. Chuckle. Nothing special just another snack item and the spiciness is basically from the chilli oil and pepper.
















My dearest wife's dessert. Grinded Walnut Soup. Heard of peanut and sesame but first time we had a walnut thingy. How did they cook that ? I got no idea.

Overall I will give them 6 out of 10 for food, service and ambience. Price wise, I dont remember as I thought I will have the bill but my boss got to that earlier. Well, I like him as he is a very straight forward person and will tell you off if yuo made a mistake and praises you as well. Rare bosses and you can even argue with him if need be.....nice eh ?

  1. Wah...new camera means even more yummy food photos. Do check out my digital camera blog 'cos a few of the readers had done some comparison etc and found what they wanted. Saves you the chore of comparing etc. http://digitalphoto.malaysiabest.net

    Of the three brands, I would go for Panasonic Lumix range. Points to consider, use what memory card (prefer SD) and what sort of batteries (find cheaper type, not those canggih that can fit only that camera)

    i love walnut dessert. i think they are made just like seasames or peanut dessert. besides, walnut looks like brain, so it should be good for our brains hahahaha ...

  5. did you get your new camera yet? i would think sony and olympus are good brands. from experience, i would say don't buy a light camera because when you take pictures, you tend to move it easily and the pictures aren't still no more...

  8. i've blogged about this place before. their fried rice is nice cos enuff "wok hei". din like walnut soup kinda weird tasting.

    i have been trying to perfect the milk curd wid ginger recipe. wasted loads of milk and energy to squeeze ginger juice but still cant get it right. i gave up already. wud appreciate if you could try one day and perfect it. thanks *muaks*
